After graduating from the University of Exeter, James Hewes began his career at Barclays Bank before moving to BBC Worldwide in 2001. During 12 years at the BBC, he worked in a number of roles across BBC Magazines, building a track record of success in marketing, digital and print publishing, events and international business development. He was the launch publisher of olive magazine and grew BBC Magazines' licensing portfolio from eight to 55 editions. He spent almost five years in Dubai, firstly as publishing director of Dubai-based Gulf News Publishing, where he had responsibility for more than 30 product areas, before running his own consultancy business. He was then interim CEO of The Art Newspaper before being appointed President & CEO of FIPP.
